Interested in the fast-paced world of online buying and selling? A new association is helping students get acquainted with E-commerce.

The e-Venture.Association is holding its kickoff event today from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Schoenbaum Hall 220. Featured speakers include Kerry Kurian, associate staff member at the MIT Lincoln Library and Stephen Owens, executive director of Business Development Commerce at Compuserve Interactive Services. Both speakers will be addressing the roles of technology and commerce in starting your own online business.

For EVA this is a chance to showcase its ability to bring big name speakers to campus.

“We’ve been waiting for this event,” said Rohit Lakhani, president of EVA. “Kerry is 26 years old and already a faculty member at MIT and founder of his own online business. He is a perfect speaker for inspiring undergraduates.”

EVA aims to help students understand the concepts and methods of doing business online through presentations and workshops.

“E-Commerce is anything that deals with doing business online. I think that many students don’t understand about E-Commerce because we don’t talk about it much. It is untouched at OSU,” Lakhani said.

Meetings will be hosted by professionals experienced in E-Commerce. Topics include starting your own eVenture, developing business models, acquiring venture capital and E-Marketing.

According to EVA adviser P.C. Chu, associate professor in the department of accounting and MIS, meetings will give students a chance to gain experiences not found in the classroom.

“This is a great way for students to have the opportunity to contact people in the industry and to learn about the technology used to build E-Commerce. Students will gain a lot of industry knowledge,” Chu said.
