An undetermined number of cars were vandalized on West Norwich Avenue early Friday morning.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said he heard loud noises and went outside to see what was going on at 2:30 a.m. Friday,

“There were two white males kicking side-view mirrors off automobiles,” the witness said. “They were busting windows out and kicking dents in people’s doors. They were taking the mirrors they broke off and throwing them at houses.”

The witness said he saw the two males cross Neil Avenue and take American flag poles out of yards, continuing to knock off car mirrors.

“I hollered at them, but they didn’t seem to care. I called the police and saw the boys get caught three blocks down Neil, north of Norwich. They were between 5-foot-9 inches and 5-foot-11 inches (tall). One had sandy brown hair, and the other had dark brown hair,” he said.

Geoff Merl, who lives in apartment 106 A W. Norwich Ave., said he was studying at 2:15 a.m. when he heard people laughing and hitting something with a baseball bat.

“They were too far east before I could identify them. When I went to class Friday morning, I saw at least eight to 10 passenger side mirrors knocked off cars on the left side of the road. I didn’t see any cars hit on the other side,” Merl said.

Merl said Friday morning he noticed the passenger side mirror knocked off of his 1995 Geo Prism and a scratch mark from whatever they used to destroy it.

John Slosser, who lives in apartment 88D W. Norwich Ave., said his red 2000 Oldsmobile Alero was broken into and vandalized.

“I found my car at 6:00 a.m. Friday and saw my radio was taken and my compact discs (also),” Slosser said. “The back window was broken, and the console was ripped out. There was blood on the driver’s side seat.”

Zach Brown, from 14 W. Norwich Ave., said the passenger side-view mirror of his 1999 Cougar was also smashed off.

The Columbus Division of Police said the crime is considered malicious destruction, and the police report will not be available until this morning at the earliest.
