Anticipating spring break, many students feel the urge to tone themselves up before hitting the sunny beaches in their bathing suits. To help make the descision on which gym to go to, three area facilities were reviewed to get an all around feel of what they have to offer.

Gold’s Gym, located at 3614 Indianola Ave., offers their members amenities with their memberships.

In addition to free weights, machines and a cardio area, Gold’s also offers free personalized instruction, aerobics and yoga classes. Tanning is also availible in their full locker room with showers and a sauna.

The monthly membership fee for Gold’s is $29.95 with an initiation fee of $125. If you take advantage of Gold’s free week trial prior to signing up though, you can cut the initiation fee in half.

Another possibility is one of the four California Fitness Centers located around Columbus, that include membership to each of the facilities.

Frank Dennis III , general manager of the 21 E. State St. facility, said that each of the four clubs offers something different.

“In addition to the weights and cardio areas that all of our locations have, we also have basketball courts, juice bars and saunas in selected locations,” said Dennis

California Fitness members also have access to all club amenities such as personal training and aerobics. Dennis also said that they run their meberships fees differently than other clubs.

“We have no contracts here and all memberships are month to month, the prices are set here as well. We do this so our members know the prices won’t rise,” said Dennis.

World’s Gym and its nine locations in Columbus is another option for the aspiring fitness freak.

David Hall, assistant manager of the 9 E. Long St. facility, said that his club tries to stick to the basics.

“Some of the other clubs are all about socializing and flexing in the mirrors,” said Hall. “Here though, people can come and just work out in peace and quiet.”

World’s Gym amenities include weights, a cardio area and access to its locker room. Tanning, aerobics and personal trainers though, are extra costs for a member.

At World’s Gym, a new member will pay only monthly because there are no initiation fees. The membership is a one-year contract.

Each of the representatives said that Ohio State students make up a large chunk of thier customers.
