Columbus State Community College will host an “Open Mic Coffeehouse,” featuring poetry, fiction, nonfiction, monologues and acoustic music at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Nestor Hall West Lounge, 550 E. Spring St.

Russian filmmaker shows rare videos
The second in a series of three screenings of Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov’s rarely seen videos will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the Wexner Center Video Theater.
On the schedule for tonight are “A Soldier’s Dream,” a small fragment of his epic “Spiritual Voices;” “Evening Sacrifice,” in which Sokurov integrates the evening Orthodox prayer of repentance with parade and firework images; “Simple Elegy,” compiled of footage shot during the Russian-imposed economic blockade of Lithuania, and “Moscow Elegy,” a portrait of Andrei Tartovsky during his exile.
Tickets are $5 for the public; $4 for members; OSU students, senior citizens and children under 12 are admitted for $2. To purchase tickets call 292-3535.
‘Ballet Go Braugh!’ at Capitol Theatre
BalletMet will present “Ballet Go Bragh!” at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day at the Capitol Theatre, 77 S. High St.
“Ballet Go Bragh!”, roughly translating to “Ballet Forever!”, will be a day-long celebration featuring performances from BalletMet’s professional dancers in selections from the ballets “Beauty and the Beast,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “They’ve Lost Their Footing” and “Dance Sport,” a ballet making its Columbus debut.
Before the performances, visitors can meet a leprechaun, get their faces painted and listen to storyteller Candace Mazur.

Painter to discuss work at CCAD
Realist painter Robert Brawley will discuss his work on Monday as part of Columbus College of Art and Design’s Visiting Artist Series from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Canzani Center Auditorium at Cleveland Avenue and East Gay Street.
Brawley’s attention to detail, perspective, value and color has earned him a place in “Who’s Who in American Art” since 1978. His work is featured in collections at such prestigious institutions as the National Museum of American Art and the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Alternative band adds new sounds
Amara, one of Columbus’s most energetic rock bands, will play at 11 p.m. tonight at High Five’s.
The Cleveland trio of Pete Huefner, Joe Lonardo and Craig Kitson recently revamped their rhythm section with the addition of Lydia Dutcher on keys and Ryan Wilkins on bass.
With their original tunes, ranging from soulful ballads to energetic hit-and-runs to unique cover material, Amara will provide listeners with an interesting alternative rock performance.

Local author offers discussion, signing
Local author Rich McElroy will discuss and sign his book, “American’s Presidents & First Ladies Volume 3,” Saturday at the Border’s Books Music & Cafe on both Sawmill and Kenny roads.
McElroy’s book offers anecdotes and historical facts about the presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush.
The discussion will be at noon at 6670 Sawmill Road starts and at 3 p.m. 4545 Kenny Road.
