Ohio State’s Lima campus has begun the search for a new dean and director.

Violet I. Meek, current dean and director, will retire on June 30. She has served in the position for the past 12 years.

As for her retirement plans, Meek said she is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren.

Meek said she is pleased with what the university has accomplished during her tenure.

“We’re delighted with the quality of instruction we offer,” Meek said.

Six OSU Lima faculty members have received the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, and six have been promoted to full professor in recent years.

“We’ve also increased annual giving by a factor of 10,” Meek said.

Meek said there are many plans for the university, including renovations and the construction of residence halls.

The search committee is looking for someone who will be able to continue these improvements, said Nancy H. Rogers, chairwoman of the search committee.

“This is an exciting time for Ohio State University at Lima,” Rogers said. “A fine leadership could help to shape the program as it moves to the next level of excellence.”

The committee has begun looking at resumes but is still seeking additional applicants. Rogers said the committee hopes to recommend several candidates to Provost Ed Ray by early spring.

Faculty, staff and student representatives, as well as the Board of Trustees for OSU Lima, are part of the search committee.

OSU Lima has an enrollment of 1,400 students and offers the first two years of the general education curriculum, as well as nine baccalaureate programs and graduate degrees in education and social work.
