Van Wert, one of the counties hardest hit by Sunday’s severe weather, is my hometown. I began reading the article in Tuesday’s Lantern thinking it would be a considerate publication and not a forum for complaints. Students were quoted with a variety of complaints such as being forced to shower by candlelight, not being able to type a paper and even not being able to hit up the bars.
I certainly understand where these students are coming from, but I think these quotes are just sad. There were extremely horrible consequences of the tornadoes that make their complaints completely unimportant. In Van Wert County alone, people have lost their jobs, their homes and their loved ones. I only wish the article could have been more focused on the serious, real-life losses that came about from the storms, and not the pathetic whining of a guy who missed out on one night of drinking.
