I am writing on the issue of couches on the Ohio State campus. I would like to take this opportunity to state my opposition to such a ban. I find my porch a relaxing place, ratty old couches and all. I should not be punished for the mistakes of the few. I live in an area off campus that has seen little destruction. Why should the care I have taken to protect my home from such careless acts be in vain?

I have heard that OU has banned couches but offered plastic chairs in replacement. Who in their right minds enjoys sitting in rigid, plastic chairs in contrast to a nice, soft couch? I, being a larger woman, do not fit well into what plastic manufacturers deem a “comfortable-sized chair.” Why must I be uncomfortable because a few troublemakers cannot be contained?

I urge all students to stand up against such oppression. We are adults, and just because a few of us are still acting like children, the rest of us do not need to be punished like children.
