After an improbable run in the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago, the Ohio State men’s basketball team couldn’t keep the momentum going Wednesday night when it fell 72-58 to Georgia Tech in the first round of the National Inviatational Tournament. The Buckeyes, who where playing their first game without suspended forward Zach Williams, did hold a one-point lead at halftime before the Yellow Jackets, playing on their home court, ran away from OSU. Georgia Tech opened the game up after OSU guard Sean Connolly nailed two free throws to cut the Jackets’ lead to 48-47 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the second half. Jacket standout Ismai’il Muhammad ended a 18-4 run eight minutes later with a reverse dunk to put Georgia Tech up 66-51. Connolly led the Buckeyes with 16 points, while fellow guard Brent Darby added 12. OSU came into the contest holding a 10-1 record against Georgia Tech, including eight straight victories over the team from the ACC. The teams last matchup came in the second round of the 1991 NCAA Tournament, when the Buckeyes pulled out a 65-61 win.
