Students who procrastinated buying football tickets for the upcoming season of the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes are still in luck.
The deadline for turning in student ticket applications was yesterday, but because of the tremendous demand, the deadline has been extended for students ordering online until tonight at 6 at www.hangonsloopy.com.
“People have been buying tickets nonstop since we started selling them in early April,” said associate athletic director Richelle Simonson. “We went through a system upgrade that students had questions about, and it took a few days to get everything running smoothly.”
Simonson wants students to have every opportunity to engage in purchasing tickets. So far 13,000 student tickets have been sold, and the goal of the athletic department is to get 100 percent of students involved.
Ordering tickets online has been a tough task the last couple of days. Some students have gotten frustrated with the online system and went to the Schotteinstein Center to order in person.
“I tried last night and today to order tickets, and the system was taking forever,” said Chris Hart, a senior in consumer affairs. “I kept waiting the 60 seconds and it kept reloading. So I just decided to come and buy them in person.”
Many students waited as long as two hours or more to finally get to the Web site where they could order the tickets.
“It took me from about the time I logged in at 11:45 a.m. till about 1:45 p.m. to finally get through, but once I got through, ordering the tickets was quick and easy,” said Paige Harrison, a sophomore in exercise science . Simonson said the extreme traffic for online ordering is another reason why the deadline has been extended. The best time to order the tickets are between the hours of midnight to 3 a.m.
“There is no down time for online ordering, it is open 24 hours,” Simonson said.
Simonson is working on a ticket project for this weekend’s baseball games. The project is called Access Management System, and she needs the help of students. The idea is that when a student logs onto the ticket ordering Web site they will receive one free ticket to one of the baseball games on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
“We are testing a new system we want to put in place next year for fall ticket ordering. The tickets students order online will go directly on their BuckIDs, and then when they come to sporting events they can just swipe their BuckID to print their tickets,” Simonson said.
A free ticket for this weekend’s baseball games will be added to the students’ BuckID every time they log onto the Web site. If students have questions regarding purchasing tickets for football or other sports the number to call is 1-800-GO-BUCKS.
