The South Campus Gateway will open for business in time for the Buckeyes to hit the football field this fall.
Stephen Sterrett, director of community relations for Campus Partners, said that the Gateway will provide an exciting place for student entertainment.
“It is unique because it is one of few mixed-use buildings in Columbus,” Sterrett said.
The Gateway’s primary retail establishment, Barnes & Noble, is one of 11 academic superstores and is set to open on August 8. Long’s Bookstore, the University Bookstore and the OSU Health Sciences Bookstore will merge in the Barnes & Noble store located on the southeast corner of High Street and East 11th Avenue.
Long’s Bookstore will be moving from its current location at the corner of 15th Avenue and High Street, where it has been since 1909.
Former Ohio State football star Eddie George is opening Eddie George’s Grille 27, a sports-themed restaurant located on the southeast corner of High Street and Chittenden Avenue. Bob McCarthy, partner and CEO of the company, said it is scheduled to open the second week of September, just in time for the game against the University of Texas.
“Football is obviously a key component of what we do,” McCarthy said. “But we are dedicated to providing quality products to our customers 365 days a year.”
The eight-screen Drexel Gateway Theater will provide entertainment in October or early November. Sterrett said the cinema might even be used on game days to show Ohio State football.
Potbelly Sandwich Works, which serves hot sandwiches and hand-dipped shakes along with live local music, and The Finish Line, a shoe and clothing store, will open their doors on August 1. These will be followed by the OSU Office of Human Resources office opening on August 8.
According to a Campus Partners press release, the Gateway is comprised of 225,000 square feet of retail, 90,000 square feet of office space, nearly 50,000 of which will be dedicated to the University Bookstore. The facility will also house 184 apartments and a 1,200-space parking facility.
“Businesses will be opening throughout the fall,” Sterrett said. “We will know more precisely throughout the summer when things will be opening.”
