I was both shocked and offended by the name-calling The Lantern has allowed in the opinion section of the newspaper.
Don Howard has recently written an article, supposedly on the ridiculousness of election ads, in which he throws a cheap shot at the president of our university, Karen A. Holbrook. The name-calling was both irrelevant to his subject and disrespectful.
I am not advocating censorship. I just think we as students need to use a little discretion and give respect where respect is due. We may not like the way our president is running things (and I am well aware of the many issues on which students disagree with her), but we still need to give her the respect afforded to her by her position.
Write all you want about the many things on which you may disagree with President Holbrook, but back up those arguments with facts, not cheap shots.
