With the Main Library closed, many students are wondering where there are other quiet places to study. Because Ohio State is a big school, many other smaller libraries are scattered throughout the campus.

Sullivant Hall, located at 15th Avenue and High Street, is one of those libraries. On the first floor of the building there are two signs for libraries: the Music and Dance Library on the right, and the Sullivant Library on the left.

“There’s a lot of computers to use and a lot of quiet places to get away and do work,” said Kristen Depp, a sophomore in communication.

The Music and Dance Library has tables for studying and several computers to use. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Students are allowed to bring drinks in travel cups with lids and sports bottles with caps. All other drinks need to be set on the designated “beverage bar.” No food is allowed in the library.

On the left, the Sullivant Library does not look like much. The first floor is mostly a place to check out and return books, with a couple of leather couches and some study cubicles. Up just one flight of stairs, however, is Sullivant Learning Commons, with three computer labs and along with a multimedia center.

“I come here because it’s convenient for me just to use the computers for the Internet,” said Sonja Parson, a senior in biology.

The Sullivant Learning Commons has more than 15 study desks with computers, many wooden tables and chairs, and more than 25 study cubicles. It also has several leather couches and chairs for relaxing.

The multimedia center within the Sullivant Learning Commons is not intended to be a quiet study space. The space is available for students working on image, sound and multimedia projects. All of the computers in this area have Adobe InDesign.

“A lot of people I know come and study here,” said Lindsey Sadd, a junior in marketing. “I know that I can get help with anything I need while I am here.”
