The anatomical exhibition, “Bodies … The Exhibition,” debuted in Columbus Saturday at the Easton Market Center.

The exhibition features authentic whole-body specimens with real organs and partial-body specimens from more than 200 human bodies. The exhibition provides a deeper look into the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, reproductive, circulatory and other systems of the human body.

The body specimens are preserved by a method called polymer preservation, which is a process that permanently preserves human tissue on a cellular level using silicone rubber.

The exhibition first opened in late summer 2004 and has been traveling around the world ever since. It has been seen in cities including New York, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., London, and Prague. So far it has been visited by more than four million people.

Dr. Roy Glover, chief medical adviser of the “Bodies…The Exhibition,” who is also an OSU alumnus, said it is important to provide the best educational visit a person can have through this exhibition.

“Seeing promotes understanding. It becomes more real when you actually come and see it; the experience provides much more than what you see in books and pictures,” Glover said. “It is a very educationally rich exhibition. The bottom line is coming here and leaving with a deeper understanding of human anatomy in a very real level.”

The exhibition is located at 3749 Easton Market. It is open until Dec. 31.
