He’s walked on water, through glass and has been impaled by the posts of an iron fence and lived to laugh about them all. While these actions might sound like the actions of a certain biblical figure, they are actually some of the illusions performed by Criss Angel.

Along with Chriss Angel, NBC is assembling some of the world’s best-known mentalists, pictured above.

The famous illusionist, mentalist and star of A&E’s “Criss Angel Mindfreak” will soon make the jump to network TV. Angel, along with Uri Geller, the Israeli-British performer famous for claiming to have the ability to bend spoons with his mind, will star in “Phenomenon,” set to premiere on NBC Oct. 24. The show will try to find the next great mentalist from a group of 10 finalists, who will perform on the show.

Mentalism is when a performer uses mental acuity, suggestion or deception to create the illusion they are able to break and bend the laws of physics by doing things with their mind, such as bending a spoon or breaking glass.

Angel, who stars in “Criss Angel Mindfreak” in its third season, is looking forward to “Phenomenon.”

“I thought it was a great opportunity to be involved in a show that would showcase the talent and the art I love so much, the art of mentalism,” Angel said in a conference call.

Angel said the show will feature himself and Geller, as well as a guest celebrity. This panel will comment on the performers and their skill level. The decision of who is most talented will be left to the viewers at home. The winner will receive the grand prize of $250,000 and title of next great mentalist.

One of the things Angel has requested going into the show is to be unaware of what each performer is doing prior to them going on stage.

“I don’t want to be in the loop so much. I want to be experiencing the performer for the first moment, just as the audience,” Angel said. “I don’t know exactly what we’re going to have, but I think we’ll have the full gambit of performers from the very poor to the very best,” Angel said.

At first, one might expect Angel to claim there is supernatural ability behind his illusions, but this is not the case.

“With everything I do, I may create the illusion that I can read your mind, but it’s something that I’ve practiced many years and honed my skills, and there is nothing supernatural about the abilities that I have,” Angel said.

Angel remains skeptical of those who claim to have supernatural abilities, such as seeing the future and reading minds, and plans to stand up and expose those who claim to have this ability on “Phenomenon.”

“I have a problem when people take money for a service that people believe in when, indeed, it is fraudulent and is just taking advantage of others,” Angel said.

“Phenomenon” will premiere October 24 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
