Considering this may be Coheed and Cambria’s final tour, their last visit to Columbus was understated.
They visited Nationwide Arena Friday night, opening for Linkin Park as part of their first worldwide arena tour.
There were very little visuals other than lights and straightfoward music for the near-sold out crowd trickling into the arena.
Lead singer and guitarist Claudio Sanchez, known for his uniquely high-pitched singing style, had trouble hitting some of his high notes. This could have been due to touring fatigue, or maybe he caught the cold everyone else in Columbus seems to have right now.
Coheed and Cambria’s set was far too short – again, considering this may be their last tour through the Midwest-coming in less than an hour before Linkin Park took the stage.
They still managed to faithfully recreate songs off their latest record, “Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow,” which was released last October, as well as hits from their three previous records.
Their final song, “Welcome Home,” was higher energy than the rest of their low-key performance, with Sanchez’s vocals reverberating to the back of the arena and his crazy cartoonish metal head of hair waving free. It left us wanting more, but Coheed and Cambria may never be able to deliver.
