The East Village bar and restaurant in the Short North offers a unique Tuesday night entertainment option. Team Trivia Tuesdays were created in April by Jeremy Dineen, graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, and Dannon “Sparks” Unsdorfer, Ohio State graduate.
Dineen’s idea for Team Trivia spawned from a similar event he used to attend when he lived in New York, Dineen said.
Tuesday marked the 30th straight week of the event, which draws eight to 15 teams every week.
Team Trivia consists of four rounds; four 10-point questions, four 15-point questions, four 20-point questions and a final question with Jeopardy-style waging. Once a question is asked a song starts and teams have until the end of the song to bring their answers to the tally table.
Questions topics range from current events to music trivia.
“We like to find funny things to ask, things that make people laugh and that can be discussed with their friends,” Unsdorfer said. “We pick things that people will know.”
The prize for first place is a $25 gift certificate to East Village, Union or Havana, and the second-place team is awarded 15 bonus points for the next week. A round of drinks is awarded to the team with the dumbest answer.
“We have the most fun with the dumb answers,” Unsdorfer said.
There is no cover to get into East Village and no fee to play the trivia game.
“Team Trivia is for groups of friends looking for a place to hang and just have a little extra fun,” Dineen said.
