The iPhone is a device found in the pockets of many. It provides instant access to communication, information and entertainment. With constant updates being added to the iPhone, people might find it helpful to listen to someone who is knowledgeable about it. While there might not be “an app for that,” there is a seminar being offered on campus.
The Digital Union is hosting a guest speaker who will discuss ways to develop applications for the iPhone. The seminar, “Making iPhone/iPod Touch Apps and the Future of Computing,” is open to leadership, faculty and students.
“We were approached by Apple, who asked if we could help arrange this event for them as they have seen demand for it,” said Gabe Moulton, an employee for Emerging Technologies.
Emerging Technologies maintains technological facilities on campus, including the Digital Union.
Steve Hayman will lead the seminar. He works for Apple’s Education Team based in Toronto. Hayman develops tools and applications for the iPhone and Mac computers. He offers instructional presentations for colleges throughout the country.
The presentation in Columbus will equip attendants with information and details about the process of making iPhone applications.
“People with an interest in getting started developing applications for the iPhone or iPod Touch will walk away with the basics needed to get started, information on resources available and will be able to have some of their questions answered,” Moulton said.
The Digital Union offers information about technology, including the iPhone. It occasionally features posts on its blog that have details about iPhone applications and recent technological advancements that college students may find useful.
The seminar will be presented March 3 in Room 165 of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The seminar will last approximately an hour and a half and presenters will answer questions for 30 minutes after each session. Anyone interested in attending must register online at the Digital Union Web site, digitialunion.osu.edu.
