Former Ohio State receiver Santonio Holmes was traded to the New York Jets on Sunday, but won’t see time on the field in the first four games of the 2010 season because of a violation of the substance abuse policy set forth by the league, the NFL announced Monday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers traded Holmes for a fifth-round draft pick. ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the trade late Sunday, and Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed the trade Monday morning. The league has suspended Holmes without pay, but he will be eligible to take part in offseason training and preseason games.
The trade will be officially announced after Holmes undergoes a physical in New York and meets with Jets officials. Holmes signed autographs at the Ohio Union last Tuesday.
