James Conway, 23, of Grove City was arrested by the Columbus Division of Police on Saturday, charged with the murder of an Ohio State senior.
Conway allegedly killed 21-year-old Jason Gervais, a student at the Fisher College of Business. Conway was also charged with felonious assault for shooting Mandel Williams in the same incident.
Conways’ arraignment will be today at 9 a.m. at Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
Gervais was struck by stray bullets outside of Dockside Dolls, 2210 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. on Jan. 20. He died hours later at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
A native of Westerville, Ohio, Gervais played drums in his high school’s marching band. High school friend Megan Collins, a senior in communication, described him as “involved, energetic and positive.”
“Everyone knew him, and everyone loved him,” Collins said. She said many of Gervais’ high school and college friends attended his funeral.
“His family was amazed at the number of people who came to the funeral,” Collins said. “His dad told me, ‘I always knew I had a great son, but I thought I was biased. Today I really believe it.’ “
“He was just a super student and a great individual,” Said Deborah Ballam, a business law professor, in an article appearing in The Lantern in January. “He was one of our top students.”
