With unique features, a vaulted ceiling and a conference room with hundreds of chairs in a connecting room, the 4th Street Cafe and Study Center doesn’t look like your typical coffeehouse.

The Study Center, which opened Monday, is a part of a local church project. The building next door is a meeting center for the church, and the conference room connected to the 4th Street Cafe and Study Center hosts two evening Bible studies each week.

The cafe offers different features to accommodate personal needs, but during business hours it’s a place for students to get a cup of coffee and study.

“We have some great coffee and good couches,” said Bret McCallum, a senior in psychology.

The Study Center is open Monday through Thursday noon to 10 p.m. and Friday noon to 7 p.m. There is free wireless Internet and the cafe offers many different coffee drinks, bagels, hot dogs, brats and even a selection of candy.

“We definitely have cheaper prices than Starbucks and Cup O’ Joe,” McCallum said.

The main cafe room has booths and tables. On the left side of the cafe, there is a separate room for students who like to relax and get comfortable while they study. It has a fireplace, bookshelves and art on the walls. There are plenty of couches, along with a big green sectional with a coffee table in front. The room has several computers, a fax machine, a copier and a printer.

“I like how the room with the computers and fireplace are set up. It’s pretty sweet,” said Andy Grizzell, a sophomore finance who works at the Study Center.

The Study Center has three TVs mounted on the walls, along with a big-screen TV in the room with couches and a fireplace. It also welcomes study-groups to meet with a big oval table in the middle of the adjacent room.

“I come here because it’s close to my house, has good coffee, its not super crowded and I like fireplaces. Basically it’s just a cool place,” said Nick Meister, a junior in chemical engineering, while studying in the corner by the fireplace.
