At the beginning of every year, people pontificate about what the year will bring. While questions about America’s future in Iraq and how low President Bush’s approval ratings can go might be more pressing on the American people’s minds, but a close third could be what kinds of movies we have to look forward to in 2007. Well, I have rounded up the top seven movies of 2007. These are the ones that I look forward to spending my hard earned $11 on.

The Simpsons Movie Movie studios have been toying for years about the prospect of a Simpsons movie. Finally, it is coming to fruition. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the whole gang will have their very own full-length feature film. Although the movie is seven months from its theatrical release, more than my hopes are extremely high and I don’t think I will be walking out of the theater saying, “D’oh!” 7/27/07

Number 23Jim Carrey takes on a mind-bender of a movie. Carrey plays a professional dogcatcher who becomes obsessed over a book titled “The Number 23.” He soon reaches dementia as the number 23 shows up in every facet of his life. Carrey has shown that he can flex his serious acting muscles, but with this thriller, it appears as though Carrey is taking his craft to a new level. 2/23/07

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesI will admit, I peed myself a little when I saw they were making another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. The animation looks pretty sweet, but very few details about the plot have been released and that worries me. When a movie is shrouded in secrecy, it is either because it is really good or it is really bad. But, I am still quite optimistic. TMNT were such a huge part of my childhood that I will probably stick by them, no matter what. 3/23/07

GrindhouseProbably one of the most ambitious undertakings of the year, “Grindhouse” is a bloody, horror movie double-feature directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Reminiscent of B horror flicks, the first feature, titled “Death Proof”, shows how a crazy man (Kurt Russell) stalks and kills women with his car. While, “Planet Terror”, follows an outbreak of infected killers in a small town. Although “Death Proof” sounds mildly entertaining, the character Rose McGowan portrays in “Planet Terror” has a gun for a leg. Count me in! 4/6/07

Hot Fuzz From the genius mind that brought us “Shaun of the Dead,” director Edgar Wright tells the tale of Nicholas Angel. Angel is a city cop who works a little too hard, his fellow officers resent him. His colleagues conspire against him and have him transferred out to a small, rural town. However, Angel and his new bumbling partner, Danny Butterman, uncover one of the biggest crimes either of them has ever seen. Featuring the two stars of “Shaun of the Dead”, this movie appears to have hilarity written all over it. 4/13/07

TransformersThe Autobots and Decepticons will be making their way to the big screen in the long-overdue updated film. While I am not crazy about the choice to have Michael Bay direct, Shia LaBeouf is a young up-and-coming actor that holds a lot of promise for the future of Hollywood. Though the previews aren’t that impressive, I am optimistic that this movie will be more than meets the eye. 7/4/07

300Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, “300” tells the heroic true story of 300 Spartans who withstood an entire Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. for three full days until every last Spartan was killed. As a result of this battle, all of Greece stood up against the Persians to form the world’s first democracy. The visuals promise to be simply stunning, and the story is one of courage and passion. 3/9/07
