Sunday afternoon’s tri-meet was both up and down for the Ohio State wrestling team, as they routed Cuyahoga Community College 37-7, but lost to 20th-ranked University of Pittsburgh 19-15. By splitting the two dual meets, the Buckeyes dual meet record now stands at 1-7.’We have been competitive against ranked teams this year, even though our record doesn’t show it,’ said Ohio State Head Coach Russ Hellickson. Hellickson had mixed reactions after the meet. While the Buckeyes are battling injuries, the team is gaining experience with each match, he said.Against the Pitt Panthers, the Buckeyes were losing 13-3 after the upper division matches. The Buckeyes sole victor in the upper division matches was Mitch Clark, who scored an 8-2 decision in the 177 pound weight class. Clark, who sat out last week’s meet against Michigan State with a rib cartilage injury, is ranked eighth in the nation.’Mitch looked tough out there,’ Hellickson said. ‘He’s regaining his health.’The Buckeyes battled back to win three out of the last five matches in the lower weight classes. This cut Pittsburgh’s lead significantly, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Panthers at the end. Sophomore Adam Plouse competed for the first time since November, losing a close 7-6 match in the 142 pound weight class.Robbie Archer, Brian Roskovich and Dan DiCesare recorded wins in the loss to Pittsburgh.The Buckeyes had no trouble in defeating Cuyahoga C.C., winning eight of the ten matches.Nationally ranked heavyweight Nick Nutter did not wrestle Sunday, as he is waiting for his injured right knee to heel.’He’s going to be out at least two more weeks,’ Hellickson said.The Buckeyes will travel to Ashland this Sunday to compete in the Wendy’s Classic tournament, which will feature Ashland University, Cleveland State University and Duquesne University, along with the Buckeyes.The next chance to see the Buckeyes at home is Sunday, Feb. 2nd when they host Big Ten rival Michigan.
