As the Illini band played taps and the more than 60,000 people in attendance at Saturday’s game quietly stood to honor Illini alumni, faculty and staff killed while serving in our nation’s armed forces, the OSU students in attendance began chanting “OH – IO.” Their extremely inappropriate chanting was not only embarrassing to this alum, but also mocked the occasion and was offensive to the memory of those being honored.
I believe with this type of bush-league, inconsiderate behavior becoming more and more common in Ohio Stadium and in the stadiums where OSU fans are guests, using stadium police to enforce basic rules of civility and good sportsmanship may have to become a reality.
