Ke$ha to headline inauguration benefit
Washington is set to sparkle on Jan. 21 as one of the world’s biggest consumers of glitter, Kesha Rose Sebert, better known as Ke$ha, is scheduled to take the stage as part of the Presidential Inaugural Charity Benefit. There’s nothing wrong with mixing a little class with a little trash, and I’m glad to see the White House is willing to loosen some ties and make it rain.

Other stars are stepping up to sing at the actual inauguration for President Barack Obama also on Jan. 21, including Beyoncé, who will sing the National Anthem. I don’t think there could be a more perfect choice for this honor. Less exciting is the news of Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor also making it on the ticket to perform at the ceremony, but Beyoncé’s star power and prominence will undoubtedly overshadow them anyway.

2013 Razzie Award nominees announced
Not surprisingly, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” swept the nominations for this year’s Razzies, which are basically the opposite of the Academy Awards, honoring the worst in film. The film earned nods for Worst Picture, Worst Director for Bill Condon, Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart and Worst Actor for Robert Pattinson, among others. Overall the film earned 11 nominations, with at least one in each of the 10 Razzie categories. Each nomination was well deserved, which, I’m not proud to say, I know firsthand, having seen the movie in theaters (against my will and better judgement).

Adam Sandler, who hasn’t been in a funny movie in at least 10 years, deservingly earned two Razzie nominations for his role in “That’s My Boy,” and “Battleship” made the Razzie list a few times. Apparently making a movie based on a board game isn’t a good idea, and for some reason no one in Hollywood saw that coming.

Kimmel moves to 11:35 p.m. time slot
To compete with late night hosts Jay Leno and David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” moved to the 11:35 p.m. time slot on ABC Tuesday. Kimmel’s first show at the earlier slot started with a bang – literally. His first guest, Jennifer Aniston, smashed his desk with a sledgehammer, exclaiming, “Out with the old, in with the new!”

Kimmel managed to surpass Letterman’s viewership with 3.1 million viewers to Letterman’s 2.9 million, and came close to Leno’s 3.3 million viewers, according to Reuters. Late night television needed a fresh face, and we’ll see if 45-year-old Kimmel is up to the task of holding his own in the big leagues in the next few weeks following his inaugural show. However, my late-night loyalties remain with TBS’ Conan O’Brien.
