Poetry: Anti-freeze

Be thou my vision

Oh Lord of my life.

Chicken wire around my neck.

I can’t see you through the smoke.

Draw up your veins,

Draw up an outline.

Illustrating what it means to die.

And the taste of copper lingers.

The needle breaks the skin

Like my pediatrician is

Giving out flu vaccines.

I wonder if I’ll get a sucker after?

But I’m the sucker.

And Andrew,

You are invincible!

The plunger sinks,

And the ice in your blood melts.

The heavens align,

Your eyes roll back.

And Andrew,

You are God.

But you’re just a little boy,

In love with a little boy.
