One name comes to mind after hearing the phrase ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.’ Muhammad Ali.The man who fought with his fists against powerful opponents and fought with words for Africans everywhere is now the subject of a new movie and soundtrack.’When We Were Kings,’ a CD based on the movie with the same name, will debut with the film at Radio City Music Hall on February 11.The soundtrack reflects Ali’s 1974 fight, ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ against Heavyweight Champion George Foreman.Live recordings from the musical festival, which preceded the fight in Zaire, bring a bit of the past into the present.Songs from such greats as James Brown and B.B. King display only a couple of the music industry’s legends. The Spinners, Jazz Crusaders and Bill Withers are also featured on the album. With the re-release of these old favorites, the CD also includes new songs from various modern groups.A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes collaborate with the Fugees for some ’90s flavor in the song ‘Rumble in the Jungle,’ based on the historic fight.Brian McKnight and Diana King also sing a duet in the title-track song.Without a doubt, this release will be a knockout. If ‘When We Were Kings,’ the movie is even half as good as the soundtrack, 1997 may have another contender for one of the best films of the year.
