No one ever said 15 minutes of fame was easy and nobody knows that better than the three members of Marcy Playground.”This success is definitely a blessing, but we’re already getting potshots,” said Dylan Keefe, bass player for the band. “This week in Spin, in the table of contents, a reviewer said that she ‘would like to blow off John Wozniak’s (the lead singer) head with a shot gun.'”The article Keefe refers to appears in the special 13th anniversary issue of Spin magazine. The article is a salute to one-hit-wonders.”My father blew his head off and that’s not the kind of s**t that I think is funny,” he said.Criticism is helpful even if it is negative. However, sometimes reviewers forget musicians are real people and they are affected by statements like that, he said.”You will never see us do anything for Spin,” Keefe said. “It’s not because they criticized us, Rolling Stone gave us a bad review and we still do interviews with them, but the comment in Spin was totally uncalled for.”Marcy Playground’s first single “Sex and Candy” has been number one on Billboard magazine’s modern rock tracks chart for the past 12 weeks and has been certified gold, selling over 500,000 units. The title for “Sex and Candy” was inspired by a comment Wozniak overheard: “Whoo. It smells like sex and candy in here.”Marcy Playground will play at Ludlow’s on March 16 as part of their sold-out club tour.
