Look out for Big Wreck as they crash their way onto your local rock radio station. This act out of Boston has what it takes to entertain even the toughest critics on their Atlantic Records debut, ‘In Living Memory Of…’ If you have not heard of Big Wreck, don’t worry, because sooner or later you will. The band’s mainstream potential has been tapped by MTV, with their music already added into active rotation. On the disc, singer Ian Thornley, guitarist Brian Doherty, bassist Dave Henning and drummer Forrest Williams have included sounds ranging from strong guitars that demonstrate more metal tunes, to some softer sounds that resemble the blues. Thornley’s voice is soothing and easy-flowing, giving each of the 12 songs on the disc melody and a delicate touch that grabs hold of the listener’s attention. Many of the song lyrics have to do with relationships, such as ‘Between You and I’ and ‘By The Way.’ Other songs, like ‘The Oaf,’ emphasize metal, and are dominated by stronger guitar and drum sounds. Overall the disc could be placed in the same genre as Collective Soul or Soundgarden, but Big Wreck gives the music its own unique spin. ‘In Loving Memory of…’ is a well-rounded CD. With a wide variety of songs that distinctly set each one apart from the others, the CD definitely allows you to just put it in and let it play.
