The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team once again dominated the gym Friday night in a tri-meet, defeating opponents Kent State and Towson State.The Buckeyes, with a total score of 194.725, outscored Kent State, 190.075, and Towson State, 188.525.”As a coach, you expect them to do what you know they know how to, like they did tonight,” said coach Larry Cox. “We didn’t count any falls on any event in this meet.” Freshman stand out Lindsey Vagedes led the Buckeyes placing first in the all-around competition with a score of 39.25. Vagedes also placed first on the vault posting a score of 9.875, first on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.9, and second on the balance beam with a score of 9.875.”We are right on track at this time in our season,” Cox said. ” They know how to compete well, which will help them later in the season to stay strong in tough meets and in regionals.”Other outstanding gymnasts include juniors Susan Eckman and Mindi Farmer. Eckman placed second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.575, second on the vault, scoring a 9.825, and tied for third on the uneven parallel bars with Kent State’s Kelly Lovejoy, both earning a 9.725.”I am definitely progressing and gaining confidence on the beam and floor exercise which are my weaker events,” Eckman said.Farmer, who placed third in the all-around competition with a score of 38.225 also won first place on the balance beam, notching a score of 9.9.”I was very pleased with my performance tonight, especially on the beam,” Farmer said. “I have a lot of work to do on the bars, but I realize that I can’t be perfect every time.”Elizabeth Jensen, a sophomore from Naperville, Ill., placed first on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.8 and third on the balance beam earning a score of 9.825.”This is the best I’ve done all year,” Jensen said. “I’m starting to hit more routines and I need to keep working hard in practice to get into the all-around.”Saturday in a coed meet, the OSU men’s and women’s gymnastics teams play host to University of Minnesota in St. John Arena. “We need to do this and better next week against Minnesota,” Farmer said. “We can’t afford too many errors.”
