The Ohio State hockey team ended its regular season last weekend by drubbing Ferris State in a pair of Central Collegiate Hockey Association games.Hugo Boisvert, Eric Meloche, Chris Richards and Dan Cousineau all scored goals for Ohio State in the 4-1 decision Friday.Jeff Maund saved 27 of 28 Bulldog shots en route to his 16th win of the season. Saturday night, however, the Buckeyes were forced into a rough competition which resulted in a total of 243 penalty minutes handed out.”It was their game plan to run our guys into a penalty-filled contest,” said coach John Markell. “They forced the power play on us and it worked in our favor – our power play showed up.”Ohio State scored four goals on 13 power play attempts while holding Ferris scoreless in eight tries to take the 6-1 decision. Richards, OSU’s junior center, scored his first collegiate hat-trick Saturday night between the extracurricular festivities and was awarded the Bauer/CCHA Offensive Player of the Week award for his combined seven points, four goals and three assists, including both game-winners.”Individually, it’s a good thing. It’s gratifying – but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” said Richards. “He’s one of the most underestimated players in the CCHA,” said Markell of his second-line center. “He comes to play every night and it’s nice to see him receive some recognition,” he added.Hugo Boisvert added four points to his total Saturday night, one goal and three assists, and wrapped up the CCHA scoring title with 47 points, four points more than second-place Bill Muckalt of Michigan.Richards (41) and Meloche (35) also placed in the top-six positions in final league scoring. The Buckeyes finish third in the final conference standings, and their 22-11-2 overall and 19-10-1 record in the CCHA leave the team at number 10 in the nation for the second straight week.According to Markell, the most important thing about last weekend was that there were no injuries, which, to him, is important when heading into the playoffs versus Lake Superior State this weekend.
