The Ohio State women’s basketball team is looking to sink its teeth into two more Big Ten teams after winning their last three league games.”Those three wins have given us great confidence. We weren’t expected to do that well,” OSU forward Marrita Porter said. “We have to come out with effort and not let down.”The Lady Buckeyes, coming off a big win against 14th-ranked Wisconsin, will travel to Purdue Friday in hopes of advancing their record to 12-5. “What you did yesterday will have no bearing on what you do tomorrow,” OSU coach Beth Burns said. “This is a contender-pretender situation, where you find out what you are.”Twenty-fourth ranked Purdue is coming off its second straight win. The Boilermakers brought Penn State down by an 88-71 score Sunday.Two Boilermakers the Buckeyes will keep an eye on are guards Stephanie White andUkari Figgs. White, the second-leading scorer in the Big Ten, tops the team by averaging 21.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. Figgs chips in with averages of 14.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Ohio State co-captain Jamie Lewis racked up a game-high six assists against the Badgers, and will be counted on to keep the enthusiasm of the team going from the back court.”It’s more a case of this will be our first road trip in front of two crowds that give support,” Burns said. “It will be important to see how Jamie adjusts without being able to hear me, when they’re going to jump on every miscue.”The Buckeyes will spend their day of recovery traveling to Penn State for their game on Super Bowl Sunday. Penn State, standing at a 10-6 record overall and 4-3 in the league is in a three-way tie for the fourth-place position in the Big Ten with OSU (4-3) and Indiana.The Nittany Lions have won six of the last seven games against OSU, and lead the series 18-5.”We have a lot of confidence right now,” Jones said. “We’re proving to ourselves and to everyone else that we can do it.”PSU’s most dangerous player is center Andrea Garner, who leads the team both offensively and defensively, averaging 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.Freshman guard Lisa Shepard trails just behind Garner, adding 11.3 points a game, shooting 82.4 percent from the free-throw line and 38 percent from behind the 3-point line.Jones hopes to pull off some wins this weekend and open some eyes.”We have to come out strong this weekend,” Jones said. “We’re playing two good teams and if we’re able to win both games, we’re right in the thick of things.”
