The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team gave its best Sunday night, but it still was not enough to knock off the top-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.Nebraska scored the highest score in the country this year – 230.675 – while OSU scored a 230.175, which was the highest road score of any team in the country.”We started off slow on floor exercise and the pommel horse, but really got things together on the last four events,” said coach Miles Avery. “We wanted to beat Nebraska on the road, but also score 230 points. It was a tough meet and I was proud at the way we competed and happy with our score on the road.”OSU’s Jamie Natalie won the all-around competition with a career-high score of 57.975. Natalie also placed first on vault (9.775) and first on the parallel bars (9.850).Ohio State’s Doug Stibel placed first on the high bar (9.9) and second on vault (9.75).Mike Morgan tied for first place on the floor exercise (9.775) with Nebraska’s Bill Mulholland and Marshall Nelson, placed second on the parallel bars (9.775), and tied for third on still rings (9.65) with teammate Tim Elsner.Peter Landry tied for first place on still rings (9.775) with Cornhusker Jim Koziol. This was the Buckeyes’ last regular season meet before the Big Ten Tournament, Mar. 20-21 in Ann Arbor, Mich. OSU has a record of 9-4 overall going onto the tournament.”Iowa is the top-ranked team in the Big Ten,” Avery said. “They are the team to beat, but Penn State and Illinois, just like us, will also be tough.”Ohio State has won the Big Ten title for the last two years in a row.
