Students who have no health insurance plan through Ohio State now have a medical facility available on campus that will not turn them away.Prompt Care, which used to be located in the hospital clinics on the OSU Medical Center campus, has expanded its services and is now a section of the emergency department in the OSU Medical Center, said Mary Jo Ley, director of nursing at the medical center. When Prompt Care was located in the hospital clinics, it was used primarily by students and staff covered by the OSU health care plan, Ley said. Now, Prompt Care is a full-service urgent care facility that accepts patients who are not covered by any insurance plan.”We are not selective on who we treat,” she said. Payment options for care provided at the facility vary by insurance plan. The change is good because Prompt Care has longer hours and a wider range of radiology and laboratory services, Ley said. Now, if students have problems on the weekend such as flu symptoms or sprains, they will not have to wait until Monday to see a doctor, she said.”For students who do not have a car, it is very reassuring to have something nearby,” Ley said. “This helps the community at large.”The change began Feb. 16. Ley said there has been a slight increase in the number of people who are using the facility. Students are using it, but the campus at large is probably not aware of the change, she said. The Prompt Care facility is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays.
