Organization asks for positive news

Last week, one of your finest writers covered a story on the Black Undergraduate Engineering Council (BUEC). The organization brought in Dr. Calvin Mackie, a scholar and entrepreneur touring the country delivering motivational speeches. Also, BUEC recently won Chapter of the Year honors in National Society of Black Engineers’ (NSBE) six-state region (Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois). It is up for National Chapter of the Year honors in the largest student-run organization in the country. Class and positiveness is written all over the organization as we receive recognition from college students across the country. It’s ironic that we can’t even get an honorable mention in our own student-run campus newspaper. Don’t misinterpret me, Ohio State has a quality newspaper and it takes an undescribable amount of effort to produce it. My question is this – why not report the positive things some organizations are doing (i.e. BUEC)?Over the past few issues of the Lantern, I’ve read about ‘livestock competitions’ (come on), ‘drunken football players’ (wow!) and ‘bad landlords’ (shocking). Perhaps we could get an article if we invited the drunken football players, landlords and livestock to a meeting.
