Three professors from the Ohio State School of Music will put their talents on display as part of the school’s faculty recital series.Caroline Hong, Steven Glaser and Karen Peeler will participate in the three-part series going on throughout winter quarter.Hong, a new faculty member who started teaching piano in the fall of 1997, will be playing the piano tonight.She will play a variety of classical music spanning from 1771 Germany to modern-day Austria. She intends to play pieces from Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Vine and other composers, she said.Glaser, an internationally acclaimed pianist, will play a diverse solo performance Feb. 2.Glaser said he hopes students will come listen to his program which includes Scriabin’s Sonata No. 5, the Bartok piano sonata, and Schumann’s Fantasy in C.”When students do come out, they generally want to come back,” Glaser said. “It is a great opportunity to hear quality musicians perform.”On March 2, the faculty recital series will conclude with a traditional voice performance by Karen Peeler.She will sing songs from Bacharia, Strauss, and a contemporary piece by American Robert Ward. Peeler said she enjoys Ward’s songs because they are very religious and spiritual, but they are not hymns.Peeler said these performances are like doing a major lecture. Although many people say this is a dying art form, Peeler hopes people will come out to be educated and entertained, she said.”I am re-creating music that somebody already wrote,” Peeler said. “But I am putting my life experiences and interpretations in them to give the audience a true sense of who Karen Peeler is.”The series is held in Weigel Auditorium. The performances start at 8 p.m. and are free to the public.
