Nadine Strossen, the first woman president of the American Civil Liberties Union, will speak at the Ohio Union today at 7:30 p.m.Strossen, who has led the ACLU since her election in January 1991, is the author of Defending Porn, a best-selling book.Strossen has commented on legal issues in the national media such as the “Today Show,” “Larry King Live,” “Nightline” and “This Week.”Frank A. Lazar, who is the lecture chairman of the Ohio and Drake Union Activities Board, said Strossen will discuss First Amendment rights.With last week’s anti-war protests at CNN’s town hall meeting in St. John Arena, “this is an extremely timely visit and everyone wants to talk about who has the right to speak,” Lazar said.”She is the foremost expert on First Amendment rights,” he said. “She carries the flag of the First Amendment and waves it.”The lecture will be held in the West Ballroom of the Ohio Union.Tickets are $5 and are available at the Ohio Union Newstand or the Drake Union Business Office.
