Two people involved in abortion decision
Upon reading Kori Lessing’s views on women’s right to choose, contraception and the call for women to stand up for their rights, I found myself agreeing with many of her points. Yes, women AND men must take responsibility for their actions when having sex. If BOTH partners do not wish to have a baby, yet enjoy the pleasure of sex, then responsible action should be taken to lower the probability of pregnancy. And yes, women, by all means, stand up for your rights and expect your partner to be loving and responsible. Otherwise, you may find yourself in a tumultuous situation. However, as far as abortion being liberating for men and not for women, one must not be narrow-minded and look at only one viewpoint. In the instance when a man wishes to have the baby, whereas the women wants an abortion, does the man have any right to choose? NO. In this case, the abortion becomes liberating for the woman, not the man. People must realize that there are always two people’s emotions involved when deciding on abortion (not to mention the baby’s life). If abortion is the ultimate choice, then it should be the choice of BOTH the woman and man. Don’t simply ignore the voice of men who are responsible for their actions.
