A pair of Buckeyes have been named All-Americans.Senior cornerback Antoine Winfield and junior split end David Boston were honored on Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America.Ohio State coach John Cooper said he was happy for the two players.Winfield leads OSU with 58 solo tackles and is third in total tackles with 72. He has made five tackles for a loss, including two sacks, and has broken up 13 passes. The cornerback was also named first-team All-American in 1997 by the FWAA and the Football Coaches Association. He has been named a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the best defensive back in the nation, and Football News has named Winfield as a finalist for its Defensive Player of the Year award.”It’s great,” defensive coordinator Fred Pagac said. “It’s a great honor for him and a great honor for Ohio State. He’s very deserving.”Boston has had a record breaking season in 1998. He broke his own school record with 74 receptions this season and he now has 34 career touchdown reception which broke Cris Carter’s school record of 27. After catching 10 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns against Michigan, Boston was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.”David is the best receiver in the country and he went out and proved it this season,” offensive coordinator Mike Jacobs said. “We’re really happy he got his just desserts.”
