Junior wide receiver David Boston announced his plans to forego his final year at Ohio State and turn pro Wednesday morning.”I am ready for a new challenge,” he said. “I have accomplished a lot here at Ohio State.”Boston, who shattered 13 OSU records, did not say where he expected to go in the draft.National and local football analyst Kirk Herbstreit expects Boston to be one of the top 15 picks. He said Boston’s draft position depends on the needs of the different NFL clubs.”Peter Warrick and Torry Holt are a quicker and smaller receiver,” he said. “Boston is much more impressive physically and he is a gifted runner.””I know what I bring to the table,” Boston said. “It just depends on what the teams want.”He also said he has no preference on which team selects him.Boston’s announcement was not a surprise. Teammate Dee Miller said, “I pretty much knew it was going to happen. I am happy with the decision he made.”Boston’s mother, Carolyn, and sister, Alicia, accompanied him at the podium. “I would like to thank the fans at Ohio State,” Carolyn Boston said. “We told David we will continue to support him. It is a new challenge.”Boston denied money played a key role in his decision to turn pro. “I am not from an economically deprived home,” he said.He also said there was not one factor that swayed his choice more. In a written statement, Boston said he talked with family and friends he trusted. He mentioned former Buckeye Shawn Springs and his father, an NFL official, as two of his main advisors.Boston, who racked up career totals of 2,855 yards and 34 touchdowns, said his favorite moment as a Buckeye is his game-winning touchdown grab in the 1997 Rose Bowl. He said the recent win over Michigan also ranks highly. After starting in 32 consecutive games for OSU, Boston reflected on his relationship with Buckeye fans. “I want you to know that you are the greatest fans in the world. You have supported me and my fellow teammates through heartbreaks and championships,” he said.”As far as me leaving early, I was not trying to make a statement.”
