Four games. Four points. It has come down to two simple statements for the Ohio State men’s ice hockey team as they try for the final spot in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The Bucks are four points behind Western Michigan for the tenth playoff berth as the head into Friday night’s game against Bowling Green at 7:05 in Value City Arena.”We have to go into the weekend with the same mind set we’ve had for the past month or so. We have no choice, we have four games left and it’s a broken record. We have to win,” said senior wing Eric Meloche. The Bucks (10-18-4, 6-15-3) are expecting a tough weekend against the Falcons (13-16-1, 10-13-1).”It’s going to be a hard, rough game. There is a pretty good rivalry between these two teams,” Meloche said. “They’re not going to give us the points and they’re looking for points themselves.”OSU head coach John Markell believes the Buckeyes just need to stick to their game plan and need to avoid getting caught in bad situations.”We’ll have to play well. It looks like their power play is working so we’ll have to stay out of the (penalty) box,” Markell said. Junior defenseman Andre Signoretti thinks the key is to concentrate on themselves and not worry, at least at this point, about what Western Michigan or any other teams are doing.”Mathematically, we’re not out of the playoff race, we just need some help from Western Michigan but we’re just going to go after the wins and hopefully Western ( Michigan ) will take care of themselves.”OSU and Bowling Green last met in Columbus on Jan. 15th where the Bucks defeated BG 4-1 following a 3-0 loss to the Falcons the night before. Markell believed that the win was a turning point in the season.”I think we’ve started to turn it around since we beat Bowling Green. It was the first time we had responded well after a tough loss on a Friday night to come back the next night and beat the same team,” Markell said.As for Friday, Markell said that the team is looking to play well and get the two points from the win. “It all starts here Friday night.”
