Going home and coming back to school may be more convenient for Buckeyes now that COTA is offering Ohio State students a ride to the airport.COTA bus No. 52 will shuttle students between the airport and campus three to four days before the beginning of each quarter, final week of each quarter and Thanksgiving holidays. All OSU students have to do is show their Buck I.D. and they can get a free ride.”The service is primarily to help students to go home and come back after break,” COTA spokeswoman Karen Ritchey said. Most students headed for the airport usually ask friends for a ride or take a cab. “For those who need transportation to the airport, it is really a great idea. In fact, we pay $9 each quarter, so we have to make use of it,” said Szi-Shin Feng, a junior engineering major.OSU students have paid $9 per quarter for COTA bus service since 1997. Students can ride any buses around the Columbus area free with a Buck I.D.”It’s a wonderful idea. Taxis are more expensive compared to free buses,” said Jennifer Wikeler, a sophomore theater major.According to the Yellow Cab, a taxi service in Columbus, it costs $16 for a one-way drive from campus to the airport. The plan for route No. 52 was initiated last September due to a high number of requests from students, according to Ritchey. COTA weighed the students’ calendar and decided to offer service limited dates when students need it the most, Ritchey added.Departing from the Ohio Union, the route goes through North Campus, Drake Union and South Campus before heading to the airport. The bus runs on a one hour and 15 minute interval. Leaving campus times run from 5:31 a.m. to 8:55 p.m. Return trip times run from 6:26 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.The service dates available for the upcoming spring break are March 13 through 19 and March 24 through March 26.
