While Kid Rock may sing and claim to be an “American Badass,” the members of Nashville Pussy are the true American bad asses all the way through. Before putting this album into the stereo, the titles of the songs bring some attention. With a band having song titles like “Shoot First and Run Like Hell,” “Struttin’ Cock” and “Wrong Side of a Gun,” how could one go wrong? Upon listening to the album, it was not disappointing at all. The whole album is a sigh of relief; it proves that rock ‘n’ roll still exists in the world today, not only in attitude, but in music as well. Mainstream rock ‘n’ roll has long needed some saving and Nashville Pussy may be able to help in doing that. On their new album “High As Hell,” Nashville Pussy rocks hard, fast and quite darn loud. The album contains 12 guitar-fueled songs, which includes one cover song, “Piece of Ass” by rocker Rick Sims. The songs go by at such a fast and furious pace that the album seemed to be over in a very short time. Even though many of the songs go by quickly, you are still able to sing along to them.Nashville Pussy is greatly influenced by the legendary Iggy Pop and Motorhead. Most – if not all – of the songs contain great exciting guitar solos and catchy riffs. Nashville Pussy was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best Metal Performance for their song “Fried Chicken.” They earned themselves a spot on the Marilyn Manson tour after Hole left in April, which has lead to a greater popularity and a more diverse following for the band.Observing the artwork for this album, it is not suprising that the band is starting to become successful because of their rebellious attitude and outlook on life. On the inside cover there is a picture of a joint that was freshly rolled on top of the Bible. The band consists of two guys with beer bellies and two busty blondes that are scantily clad. Blaine Cartwright, lead vocals and Jeremy Thompson, drums, look like they belong behind the wheel of a semi-truck instead of on stage. The two blondes are a treat for the eyes. Ruyter Suys on lead guitar, and Corey Parks on bass, appear to be straight out of a biker bar or even possibly a porno movie. But guys should not get their hopes up, because according to their record label’s Web site, Suys is married to Cartwright. However this supposedly does not stop Ruyter Suys and Corey Parks from kissing each other on stage. It is also reported from various reviews of the band live, that Parks spits fire.Nashville Pussy may never headline stadiums but if they continue to put out great albums they will always have true fans.
