Maggot-infested squirrels foundNov. 19: A student employee in the Journalism Building found two dead squirrels, one on top of the other, on the bottom shelf behind several books in the Journalism Library.
Police said that the shelf the squirrels were on was against the north library wall, out of the sight of the library entrance where the employees of the library sit.
The squirrels were decomposed with maggots and carried a foul odor that police said was offensive in the immediate area.
The assistant librarian told police this is not the first time dead rodents have been found in the Journalism Library. On Nov. 12, a squirrel carcass was found on a bookshelf, but was not reported to police until now.
Police said that a week before autumn quarter started a maggot-infested rat carcass was found in the book return slot of the library. There are no suspects.
