Local neo-pop rock band Myopia will have a second chance to display its musical flair as the opening act for Red Wanting Blue at the Newport Music Hall tomorrow night.

After a surprisingly successful show March 1 at the Newport, the band was invited back to rock the house for another energy-filled set. Myopia is thrilled about the opportunity to show the progress it has made and to celebrate its new EP release, entitled “I Wanna Take You With Me.”

The group has enjoyed the solid success of their first two albums, “Radius” and last year’s “Superhero.” Both albums include catchy tunes which Myopia admits were written solely for the fans. The band enjoys audiences singing along throughout a show and develops songs that will get a crowd involved.

“We’re high-energy entertainers that want our crowds to have a great time at our shows,” said Greg Braun, drummer for Myopia. “We want even first-timers to sing along and feel the intense energy we convey during a performance.”

Myopia’s live shows are its forté. Although the music may not consist of brilliantly crafted ideas and words, the group is able to put on a great, high-energy show.

“We want to convey the same sound and feel-good vibe as a 311 show produces,” Braun said.

Myopia has been busy opening for such successes as Staind, Oleander and Buckcherry, as well as playing at the Blitz Bash in Polaris earlier this year. The band was also at Gameworks of Columbus to host a New Year’s Eve bash.

All of Myopia’s merchandise and public relations is done by the band and its manager Adam Ashba.

“I haven’t seen a show yet that didn’t consist of intense energy,” Ashba said.

Myopia’s music has been coined “neo-pop rock,” but the band strives to develop its own sound.

“The band sounds like themselves,” Ashba said. “They have a very recognizable tone and a very different beat.”

Lead singer John England has the deep rock voice of Creed’s frontman Scott Stapp, but the band plays with the tones of 311 and Lit that complement each other nicely.

“This music is not about money – it’s about the influences as a group we can make upon these kids,” Ashba said.

Myopia’s sound is geared toward a college crowd but has received a large high school following. The band is taking advantage of this by developing an opportunity for young musical talents in Ohio with its High School Invasion Concerts.

During a tour of local high schools, acts can audition for a chance to open for Myopia in upcoming shows. The first of these concerts will be May 4 in Kenton, the hometown of four of the band members.

“We want to make sure our younger fans get just as much of an opportunity to see performances – and a great chance to possibly open up for us,” Ashba said.

Myopia will open for Red Wanting Blue tomorrow night at the Newport Music Hall. Tickets are $8 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
