As I am drinking my coffee this Sunday morning, I watch the television in dismay as I find that the student body of Ohio State is still uncouth and lacks the self-control to retain the honor of a fine athletic victory. The behavior of the student body following the OSU/Michigan game has been deplorable now as in the past, so much so that I am asked more about the riots when I travel to professional engagements than about the quality of education. Is it not possible, even for a moment, to allow a mark of excellence to not be tarnished by the outright stupidity of others? As the nation wakes up, it will read in its newspapers and view on its televisions that OSU not only has a football team capable of beating Michigan and continuing on to a potential national championship, but that OSU’s football team must carry the burden of honor despite the actions of its student body in detracting from a considerable achievement. To the football team: may God be with you. To the students who obviously have no sense of honor or dignity: may God have mercy on you.
