After reading article after article about how unfair and racist affirmative action is, I have had my fill of whiny people.

People who are upset with the University of Michigan say it is unfair that minority students are awarded 20 points out of 150 for their race. This leaves 130 points that are open for anyone to receive. These people who are complaining about not getting into UM obviously were not quality students if they could not gain the points accessible to them. Many other white students are admitted to UM every year without any problems, so what is different about the ones that don’t get in?

The only answer is they do not perform adequately enough as high school students to be deemed worthy of the opportunity to attend The University of Michigan. Let’s face facts: If a university feels a student will be a valuable asset to their college, they will admit that student regardless of race. In the case of law schools, if a student performed well on the LSAT and as an undergraduate, they, again, will be admitted without race being an issue.

If students want to be assured they will be admitted to the undergraduate or professional school of their choice, they should worry about making themselves an outstanding candidate, rather than filing lawsuits and crying for attention when their sub-par performances leave them high and dry in the world of higher education.

Affirmative action is the reason minorities are finally getting a chance to further their education. Affirmative action is the reason that diversity on college campuses is at an all time high. And affirmative action is the reason that underrepresented groups finally have the ability to hold positions that they were formally unable to have.

Affirmative action is not the reason that John and Jane Middle-class aren’t getting into the schools they want. Stop blaming affirmative action for your own mistakes.
