After four years at Ohio State, I have finally discovered what drives me nuts about The Lantern’s opinion page.
An editorial ran on Monday praising President Karen A. Holbrook for her actions against university students, even though these actions will curtail some students’ rights. This editorial ran after an editorial blasted the Patriot Act II on the grounds that it presents an unacceptable threat to our civil liberties, despite the fact that our country faces an admitted serious terrorist threat.
The New York Times or Fox News may outrage conservatives or liberals respectively, but at least those two institutions are consistent. Please, as an editorial board, end the confusion, pick a principle, and decide which is more important to you: present safety or long-term civil rights.
