Diverse styles and cultures will be represented tonight as models strut down the runway for The Revolution Fashion and Hair Show in the Ohio Union.
The show – sponsored by the African American Student Services and SugaShaQ Promotions – will exhibit an array of contemporary clothing and hairstyles.
“There are many different ways of expression,” said Belinda Higgs, coordinator of the show. “The message is to encourage students to think for themselves.”
The show includes a DJ as well as live musical performances by Spirit and Realm.
“The music will be appropriate to the clothing,” said Tegan Hearn, SugaShaQ spokesman.
The scenes will represent situations relating to college students.
“The show is about themes college students might have to go through in their lives,” Higgs said.
A variety of local stylists, designers and makeup artists will design looks for the models.
“We are trying to do an array of fashions,” Hearn said.
Fashion designers such as Herald Pener and Demetri Unit will dress the models.
Styles will include hip-hop, formal wear, lingerie, swimwear and casual wear.
Cheree Johnson, coordinator of the show, said an open audition was held for all OSU students to model.
“We tried to get a representative sample of all students on campus,” she said.
The models are from many races and backgrounds and include undergraduate and graduate students.
Admission is free with a canned or non-perishable food item, otherwise, it is $2. All proceeds from the show will go to two needy families selected by the African American Student Services and the Black Graduate and Professional Student Caucus.
Higgs said if the show is successful, it will become a yearly event to raise money.
She said she hopes students will attend the show to take a break from studying.
“This is a fun event for students before the stress of finals,” Higgs said.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. tonight in the West Ballroom of the Ohio Union.
