Seven Ohio State students, including two members of the OSU football team, have been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct in connection to an altercation Sunday.
According to a local media report, starting wide receiver Santonio Holmes and fourth-string quarterback/kick returner Troy Smith, along with five women, were charged yesterday by OSU police after allegedly being involved in a dispute in a parking lot outside Morrill Tower. One of the women will also be charged with misdemeanor criminal damaging after allegedly kicking out a window in a car, according to an OSU statement.
Earlier this week, OSU spokeswoman Elizabeth Conlisk said four players were involved in trying to break the fight up and were not the instigators. Director of Athletics Andy Geiger also said that the investigation was over.
According to a statement from OSU, further investigation uncovered a previous altercation Saturday night at Studio 69 on Sinclair Road. Separate calls were made early Sunday morning about the incident near Morrill Tower.
Police also said they were planning to submit the cases to Student Judicial Affairs office for review and possible punishment under the Code of Student Conduct. The code forbids both disorderly and disruptive conduct and destruction of property.
No other members of the football team will be charged, according to the OSU statement, and the investigation is still continuing.
OSU football coach Jim Tressel said at his weekly press conference that the players could be disciplined by the team, but did not mention how. Smith and Holmes are due back in court Dec. 5.
