From trendy manicures and pedicures to relaxing massages, the owners of a new spa on 15th Avenue and High Street are trying to make pampering more affordable for students.
“We understand most college kids live on a tight budget and generally do not have a lot of money to treat themselves to the little extras,” said Jennifer Smith, co-owner of the Spa Bar. “This is why we want to provide a full-service spa experience without the full spa price. Basically, we are catering to the needs of their budgets.”
Spa Bar owners, Jennifer Smith and Tricia Smith, came up with the idea for the spa during a trip to New York City. The two stumbled upon a chic salon that actually provided customers with the posh styles of N.Y. without the expensive prices. During the luxurious but inexpensive day at the NYC spa, the two gained the necessary momentum and excitement to open their own spa.
“We just knew we had to open a place like it in Columbus. It was so convenient to be able to walk in at anytime and be guaranteed consistent service,” Jennifer Smith said.
Location is a huge component for any entrepreneur, said Tricia Smith. She said she is confident students will be receptive to the trendy and welcoming atmosphere.
An attractive aspect of the Spa Bar is that it only takes walk-in customers, which will better accommodate the busy schedules of most college students.
“Since we are located at 15th Avenue and High Street, we are basically at the gateway to the university. This will better allow students to utilize the option of taking a little escape from their hectic day. In less than 30 minutes they can get the works for under $40,” Tricia Smith said.
For those interested in indulging themselves with a little “shot of beauty,” the Spa Bar will open on Jan. 3, 2004.
